Dragoncon 2009

Dragoncon was fairly low key this year, for me at least. There was a fairly low turn out for the team, at least compared to last year. We didn't have a fan table, but we did FINALLY debut the fanfilm Stargate: The Lost Colony. YAY!! If we can manage to find the money, we'll make sequels. :)

I missed most of the first day of the con because I was home with Audrey putting the final touches on Lost Colony. By mid afternoon, finally the film rendered on her computer with the editing software, we transferred it to my computer which has the DVD burning software, and literally ran out the door to the con as soon as it finished burning. Those who got to see the film on Friday, it was literally hot off the press. Or the DVD burner.

We managed to find the Stargate track director to find out if she can still get us into the video night that night. She finds out that we have the film with us, and asks if we can be ready to go in half an hour! Apparently the SGU guest panel is a bust because the guests have non-disclosureagreements and can’t say anything. And they can only talk about how much they enjoy working with the other people on set for so long. So we’re up right after the shortened SGU actor panel. I franticly change into my Lost Colony costume for the panel, since I’m not doing the very first introduction of my Tok’ra film dressed as a different fandom. Though I realized after the panel started I still had my hobbit ears on. As per usual with Dragoncon, anyone who noticed just found it amusing. We were very relived that the film was well received. People laughed at all the right places, and cheered when the ring platform appeared. Very cool.

I was commuting this year, so Friday night I had to take the MARTA home. The MARTA car was packed as full as a Hyatt elevator, full of drunk football fans shouting their team names back and forth to each other at the top of their lungs. And they call us freaks?! At least we only do things like that at fanish events where everyone around is part of it. Please guys, save it for the stadium. Crowded subway cars where you are bursting the eardrums of anyone unfortunate enough to be near you is not the place for that.

There were only three Tok'ra in the parade this year, but at least we had a decent showing. Some of the Tok'ra are becoming known at Dragoncon now. Regardless what costume we happen to be in at the time. I ended up in a Stargate trivia contest at one point, and when the Tok'ra category came up, the track Mckay looks at me and says 'I bet you wish you were the one who had gotten this category;'. Of course. I got stuck with Genii questions that tripped me up. But oh well. It was still fun.

The Tok’ra team party was Sunday night, and was a bit of a challenge. The person whose room it was supposed to be in Sunday night apparently had a roommate who decided to throw a party the same night, despite having said earlier that he was going to be at a different party that night. So we showed up and found the room already packed. We moved to the 10th floor. As soon as we got set up, Marriott security came and kicked us out so they can clean the place up for an unspecified group that had reserved the whole floor. We moved our stuff out. Two hours later, there is no one using the 10th floor, and the trash that was there before we even got there hadn’t been touched. Apparently the Marriott spent the night going around confiscating alcohol and shutting down any parties they could find. The Marriott staff was even more of a pain in the neck than usual. We finally ended up sitting on the floor in the hallway on the 15th floor. We showed Lost Colony again, and handed out DVD’s! YAY!!! Keep an eye on the Fanfilm section of the site for a link to the movie. As soon as we've had a chance to re-format it so it's not a 3GB download.
